Answer provided by our tutors
Let
x = the number of pencils sold on the first day
2x = the number of notebooks sold on the second day
2y = the number of pencils sold on the second day
3y = the number of notebooks sold on the second day
The number of notebooks sold: 2x + 3y = 45
The number of pencils sold: x + 2y = 27
........
........
x = 9
y = 9
On the first day there were 9 pencils and 2*9 = 18 notebooks sold.
On the second day there were 2*9 =18 pencils and 3*9 = 27 notebooks sold.
