Problema Solution

Suppose you have 2 1/2 oranges. If a student serving consists of 3/4 of an orange, how many student servings(including parts of a serving) can u make?

Answer provided by our tutors

The way to do this is by dividing. There are 2 and 1/2 oranges, and each serving needs 3/4 of an orange.

Since 2 1/2 is the same as 5/2, the equation will be

5/2 divided by 3/4.

Using the rule of Leave change reciprocal, that means 5/2 times 4/3.

When this is reduced, it comes to 10/3, or 3 and 1/3. Therefore, 3 and 1/3 servings can be made.
