Problema Solution

a tanker ship carrying a crude oil has 13 container tanks of the same size. They are in the form of a frustum of a right circular cone.The uppr base is 78.54 square feet and the lower base is 28.27 square feet. If the height of each tank is 20 feet, how many cubic meters of crude oil can the 13 tanks hold?

Answer provided by our tutors

Number of containers = 13

Upper base area = 78.54 square feet

Lower base area = 28.27 square feet

Height = 20 feet

Volume of 1 container of a Frustum of a cone is =(πh/3)*(r^2+rR+R^2)

Radius of upper base, R= square root(78.54/π)

Radius of lower base, r= square root(28.27/π)

Rr = square root(78.54*28.27/π^2) = 47.12/π=15

Volume = h/3*(πr^2+πR^2+rRπ)=20/3*(78.54+28.27+15*π)=1026.20 cubic feet

Volume of 13 containers = 13*1026.20 = 13340.63 cubic feet
