Problema Solution

Two angels are complementary. The sum of the measure of the first angle and one-fouth the second angle is 68.25. Find the measures of the angles.

What is the measure of the smaller angle?

What is the measure of the larger angle?

The measures of complementary angles add to 90 degrees. So, if the measure of the first angle is x, the measure of the second is (90-x).

The sum of the first and 1/4 of the second is then

x+(90-x)/4 = 68.25

x+22.5 - x/4 = 68.25

(3/4)x = 45.75

x=45.75/(3/4) = 61

Then, the second angle is 90 - 61 = 29 degrees
