Problema Solution
Elyse jogs and walks to school each day. She averages 4 km/h walking and 8 km/h jogging. From home to school is 6 km and Elyse makes the trip in 1 hr. How far does she jog in a trip?
Answer provided by our tutors
distance = speed x time
distance = (walking speed x walking time) + (jogging speed x jogging time)
Let t = jogging time. Then 1-t = walking time
6 km = (4 km/h)x(1-t) + (8 km/h)t
6=4(1-t)+8t
6=4-4t+8t
2=4t
t=1/2
1/2 hour=30 minutes
distance jogged=1/2 * 8 =4 km
