What amounts of each coffee should be blended to obtain the desired mixture? (hint: Assume that the total weight of the desired blend is 100 pounds)

Answer provided by our tutors

let there be x lbs of brand A @ $2.75/lb

then there will be (100-x) lbs of brand B @ $5.00/lb, and

2.75x + 5(100-x) = 3.90*100

x(2.75 - 5) = 100(3.9 - 5)

2.25x = 110

x = 440/9 lbs or 48 8/9 lbs

A: 48 8/9 lbs @ $2.75/lb

B: 51 1/9 lbs @ $5/lb
