to find the height of a building,Rick measured the the distance from a flagpole to the building and from the building to the CN Tower. HE then drew a jpicture of the building the CN Tower and the flagpole. Rick drew a straight line from the 360-m mark on th eCN Tower to the base of the flagpole. The flag pole is 50m from the building . The building is 400m from the Tower.
How far is the flagpole from the base of the CN Tower

If the flagpole and the tower is on the same side of the building, then straight line distance from falgpole to the tower is 400-50 = 350 m.
So, the distance of flag pole from the base of the tower = sqrt(3602+3502) = 502.1 m.
If the flagpole and the tower is on the opposite sides of the building, then straight line distance from falgpole to the tower is 400+50 = 450 m.
So, the distance of flag pole from the base of the tower = sqrt(3602+4502) = 576.3 m.
