Yardbird Gardening carries two kinds of
fertilizer containing nitrogen and water. “Gently Green” is 5% nitrogen and
“Sun Saver” is 15% nitrogen. Yardbird Gardening needs to combine the two
types of solution to make 90 L of a solution that is 12% nitrogen. How much
of each brand should be used?

Let the amount of 5% nitrogern be x L. and that of 15% be (20-x) l.
so,
5/100 *x + 15/100 *(90-x)= 12/100 *90
so,
5x +15(90-x)= 12*90
5x+1350- 15x = 1080
-10x+1350= 1080
so, 10x=270
x= 27
so, âGently Greenâ is 5% nitrogen= 27 L
and âSun Saverâ is 15% nitrogen = 63 L
