Problema Solution

passing through (-4,3 times the square root of 3/2) and (8 times the square root of 5/3,-2).solve for the equation of an ellipse.

Answer provided by our tutors

We assume the equation of an ellipse is x^2/(a^2) + y^2/(b^2) = 1

Because it passes through (-4,3 square root of 3/2) and (8 square root of 5/3,-2),so

(-4)^2/(a^2) + [3sqrt(3/2)]^2/(b^2) = 1

[8sqrt(5/3)]^2/(a^2) + (-2)^2/(b^2) = 1

We solve it

a^2 = 258/17

b^2 = 2752/19

So

the equation of an ellipse is 19x^2/2752 + 17y^2/258 =1
