Problema Solution

A man has a number of coins which are dimes and quarters. The value of the coins is $2.95. If the dimes were quaters and the quarters were dimes, the value of the coins would be $3.70. How many dimes and how many quarters does he have?

Answer provided by our tutors

suppose dimes = x

and quarters  = y

10x +25y = 295

25x + 10y = 370

Solving we get

x = 12,  y =7

dimes = 12

quarters  = 7
