Problema Solution

An architect has planned a living room in a house. The room is a rectangle 12 feet by 10 feet. He decides to double the area of this room by an equal amount. By how many feet should he increase each side?

Answer provided by our tutors

The actual area is 12*10 = 120 feet^2

If it has to be doubled it has to 120 *2 = 240 feet^2

Now each side has to be increased by certain amount of feet  to achieve this 240 area.

It can be done in many ways. One way is to

increase the length 12 feel to 16 feet

width 10 feet has to be increased to 15 feet

In that case 16*15 = 240 feet^2
