Problema Solution

An area is to be fenced in along a straight riverbank. No fencing will be used along the river. The length of the fenced in area is 4 less than twice the width. The enclose area will be divided into four equal regions. The total amount of fencing used is 572 feet. Find the length of the fenced in area.

Answer provided by our tutors

Let width of fence = x

=> length of fence = 2x - 4

Total perimeter of the fenced area = 2x + 3(2x-4)

Given total amount of fencing = 572 feet

=> 2x + 6x - 12 = 572

=> 8x = 584

=> x = 73 feet

=> Width = 73 feet

Lenght of fence = 73*2 - 4 = 142 feet
