Problema Solution

Write an equation to represent each situation.

1.) You put 15 gallons of gasoline in your car. You know that this amount of gasoline will allow you to drive about 450 miles.

2.) A meal plan lets students buy $20 meal cards. Each meal card lasts about 8 days.

Answer provided by our tutors

1. Let y = distance that you can travel

We know that there are 30 miles per gallon

let x = number of gallons needed

so if initially, we can travel 450 miles, the equation will be:

y = 30x+450

2. Let  y = number of days for a 20 dollar meal card

$20 every 8 days

let x = number of $ for another day.

y = (2/5)x + 8

or

let y = amount of money you can spend with a meal card

a $20 every 8 days

let's say initially we have 20 dollars

let x = number of extra day

y = (5/2)(x) + 20
