the perimeter of a rectangle is 34ft. If the lengths were doubled and the widths were increased by 6ft, the perimeter would be 70ft. What are the length and width of the rectangle?

2(w+6)+4l = 70
2w + 12 + 4l = 70
2w + 4l = 58
2w = 34 - 2l
(34-2l)+4l = 58
34 + 2l = 58
2l = 24
l = 12
2w = 34 - 2l
w = 17-l
w = 17-12
w=15
so the width is 5 ft and the length is 12 ft
