common denominator is 3x+1. multiply the entire second fraction by this. then add
(2x+1)(3x+1)/1(3x+1)
= (6x2+5x+1)/(3x+1)
so add the numerators of 5/(3x+1) + (6x2+5x+1)/(3x+1)
= (5+6x2+5x+1)/(3x+1)
= (6x2+5x+6)/(3x+1)
