Problema Solution

For the following function find the vertical, horizontal, and oblique asymptotes, if any. f(x)=11-5x/5x^2+7x-12 Please show all of your work.

Answer provided by our tutors

vertical asymptotes are when the denominator equals zero

5x2+7x-12 = 0

factor

(5x+12)(x-1) = 0

5x+12 = 0

5x = -12

x = -12/5

and x-1 = 0

x = 1

so vertical asymptotes are x= -12/5 and x = 1

since the degree of the denominator is greater than that of the numerator, there is a horizonal asymptote at y=0

since there is a horizontal asymptote, there will be no oblique asymptote
