Problema Solution

If 2 is added to the numerator and to the denominator of a fraction, the value becomes 0.9. If 3 is subtracted from both numerator and denominator, the value of the fraction becomes 0.8. What is the original fraction?

Answer provided by our tutors

Lets make A = to the numerator and B = to the denominator.

 (A+2)/(B+2)=.9 (A-3)/(B-3)=.8

then we can solve for A, (A+2)=.9(B+2)= .9B+1.8

A=.9B-.2 plug A into the second equation and we get ((.9B-.2) -3)/(b-3)=.8

solve the equation and then you get B=8

Plug 8 into (A+2)/(B+2)=.9

then you can solve for A and get A= 7

therefor; the oroginal function is 7/8
