Problema Solution

Two sides of a triangle have the same lenght. The third side measures 3 m less than twice the common length. The perimeter of the triangle is 25 m. What are the lengths of the three sizes?

Answer provided by our tutors

let the side that is the same be s.

the first side is s

the second side is s

the third side is 2s - 3

the perimeter is the sum of all the sides, so add them and set them equal to 25

s + s + 2s - 3 = 25

4s - 3 = 25

4s = 28

s = 7

so 2s - 3 = 2(7) -3 = 14 - 3 = 11

so the first side is 7 m, the second side is 7 m, and the third side is 11 m
