let the shortest side by x
another side is x+3 since 3ft longer
another side is x+1 since 1ft longer
so you have
x + x + 3 + x + 1 = 16
3x + 4 = 16
3x = 12
x = 4
so x + 3 = 4 + 3 = 7
x + 1 = 4 + 1 = 5
therefore the side lengths are 4 feet, 5 feet, and 7 feet
