Problema Solution
How much pure antifreeze must be added to 12 gallons of 10% antifreeze to make a 40% antifreeze solution?
Answer provided by our tutors
Amount of antifreeze required = 40%
Let the amount added = x
Equating the amount of antifreeze before and after adding the pure antifreeze gives us
=> (12+x)*0.4 = x + 12*0.1
=> 4.8 + 0.4x = x + 1.2
=> 3.6 = 0.6x
=> x = 6 gallons
