Problema Solution
A ball of mass 1kg moving to the left at a speed of 25 m/s suffers an elastic collision with a fixed vertical wall and comes backward with the same speed. a. Find the impulse of the ball b. Find the force suffered by the wall if the ball remains in contact with the wall for 0.15 sec.
Answer provided by our tutors
A. Impulse = Change in Momentum.
Change in Momentum = Mass * change in velocity = - 1 * (25 - (-25)) = - 50 Ns (minus sign indicates that the impulse was in a direction opposite to the original direction of motion. Also kg m/s = Ns)
B. Force = Impulse/ time = - 50/ .15 = 333.3 N
