Problema Solution

The ratio of right-handed students to left-handed students is 9 to 2. There are 352 students in the school. How many students are right-handed and how many are left-handed?

Answer provided by our tutors

9 right-handed : 2 left-handed

9 out of 11 (9+2) students are right-handed

(9 right handed) / (11 students) * 352 students = 288 right-handed students

352 - 288 = 64 left-handed students

Solved with linear equations:

9/2 = R/L >>cross multiply

9L = 2R

R+L=352 >>subtract L then multiply by 2 on each side

2R = 704 - 2L >>set this equal with first equation

9L = 704 - 2L

11 L = 704

L = 64 left-handed students

352 - 64 = 288 right-handed students
