Problema Solution
John drove for four hours, for two and half hours John drove on a state road. John then got onto the main highway and drove 10 miles per hour faster. If the total trip was 255 miles then how fast did he drive on the highway?
Answer provided by our tutors
Let x miles per hour be the speed on state road , so x+10 miles per hour will be the speed on highway..
John drove for 2 and a half hours on state road and rest 1 and a half on highway..
therefore
X*(5/2) + (X+10)*(3/2)= 255(total distance travelled given)
Solving this X = 60
Therefore speed on the highway is 70 miles per hour..
