Problema Solution

One of the games at a carnival involves trying to ring a bell with a ball by hitting a lever that propels the ball into the air. The height of the ball is modeled by the equation h(t) =16t2+ 39t. If the bell is 50 ft. above the ground, will it be hit by the ball? Use the quadratic formula to solve. x=(-b±√(b^2-4ac))/2a

Answer provided by our tutors

50=16t^2+39t.

16t^2+39t-50=0.

t=(-b±sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a.

t=(-39±sqrt(39^2-4*16*-50))/2*16.

(-39±68.71)/32.

t=0.93, -3.37sec.

The ring  will be hit by the ball in 0.93 sec.
