Problema Solution

Trains A and B are traveling in the same direction on parallel tracks. Train A is traveling at 60 miles per hour and train B is traveling at 70 miles per hour. Train A passes a station at 5:25 pm and Train B passes the same station at 5:55 pm. What time will train B catch up to train A?

Answer provided by our tutors

Say they meet after x miles. so train A takes x/60 hrs. to travel x miles.x/60 hrs means x minutes. (x/60*60 to convert it to min)..........(1) train B takes x/70 hrs to travel x miles i.e 6x/7 min.(just multiply with 60 to convert the unit into min)................(2) now we know that there is a 30 min difference between the time of these 2 trains passing the same station. So now we get an equation like this x+30=6x/7 or x=210 this means these trains will meet after 210 miles from the mentioned station. so train A takes 210 min or 3.5 hrs to reach that point and train B takes 3 hrs to reach the same point.( just put the value of x in (1) & (2) So they will meet at (5.25+3.30)P.M i.e at 8.55 P.M
