Kira bought some 2-liter bottles of soda for $1.75 each for her party. She also bought some bags of potato chips for $3.25 each. If she spent $36.75 and bought 15 items, how many of each did she buy?

Let number of soda bottles are x
and num of potato chip bags are y
so x + y = 15_______________(1)
and 1.75x + 3.25y = 36.75________________(2)
Solving two equations
(2)-(1)*1.75
=>3.25y - 1.75y = 36.75 - (15*1.75)
=> 1.5 y = 10.5
=> y = 7
Putting in (1) we get x =15-7=8
number of soda bottles are 8
and num of potato chip bags are 7
