Problema Solution

A slice of pie with a scoop of ice cream had 850 calories. The calories in the pie alone are 100 more than twice the calories in the ice cream alone? How many calories are in each food?

Answer provided by our tutors

let the pie calories be P

and the ice cream calories be C

P = 100 + 2C

P+C = 850

substitute for P

100 + 3C = 850

3C = 750

C = 250 calories for the ice cream

so

P = 100 + 2(250) = 600
