Problema Solution
A Cyclist rode the first 30-mile portion of his workout at a a constant speed. For the 24-mile cooldown portion of his workout, he reduced his speed by 3 miles per hour. Each portion of the workout took the same time. Find the cyclist's speed during the first portion and find his speed during the cooldown portion
Answer provided by our tutors
speed at 30 mile portion = x miles /hr
speed at 24 miles portion = x -3 miles /hr
distance / speed = time
Sincr each portion of the workout took the same time
30/x = 24/(x-3)
30(x-3)= 24x
30x - 90 = 24x
6x= 90
x =15
Speed during first portion = 15 miles/hr
speed during second portion = 15 - 3 = 12 miles/hr
