Problema Solution
Factoring x(2)+bx+c involves finding two integers m and n such that mn=c and m+n=b. When you are finding m and n, is it better firs to determine values of m and n so that the product is c or the sum is b? Why?
Answer provided by our tutors
it's better to determine the values m & n so that the product is c because there are less possibilities from those multiples which two integers when added together equals b.
for example: x^2+5x+6
by determining the two integers m and n such that mn=c the only possibilities is 6*1, and 3*2 with those two integers you can determine that 3+2=5, keeping in mind both c and b are positive integers.
Choosing to use the sum of m and n to equal b would give a greater amount of possibilities... 1+4, 2+3, 6-1, 7-2, etc..
