Halima has 21 coins whose total value is sh 72. There are twice as many five shilling coins as there are ten shilling coins.the rest are one shilling coins.find the number of ten shilling coins that halima has

Answer provided by our tutors

let the number of ten shilling coins are x

then number of five shilling coins will be twice of x that is 2x

remainin coins will be 21-(x+2x) = 21-3x are one shilling coins

total money halima has = 10*x + 5*2x + (21-3x)*1  = 72 shillings

=>  10x+10x+21-3x = 72 shillings

=> 17x=72-21 = 51

=> x=3 coins

so halima has 3 coins of 10 shilling each . (answer)
