Problema Solution

I appreciate your kind help thank you very much

An endangered population, initially (1970) had 1'200 .000 inhabitants,

but in 1990 was reduced by 50%. If this population behaves according

a linear model with respect to time elapsed (in years).

a) Determine the function that defines the decrease of the population,

specify that represents each of the variables used.

b) For the constructed function, interpret the parameters

c) Find the population in 2000.

d) What year is extinguished this population?, justify

e) Graph the function.

Answer provided by our tutors

(a)

The population x years since 1970 is f(x)

f(x)=1,200,000 - 30,000x

(b)

-60,000 means population decreases by 30,000 each year

1,200,000 means the population in 1970

(c)

In 2000, x = 30

f(30) = 1,200,000 - 30,000*30 = 300,000

(d)

When f(x)=0, 1,200,000 - 30,000x=0, x=40

It's in year 2010

(e)

Draw a line passing (0, 1200000) and (20, 600000)
