Problema Solution

A gas pipe co. is laying gas pipe through some mountains. Due to the uneven landscape, the workers must lay approximately 6500 feet of pipe for every mile of land they cover. If the workers must cover 8 miles through the mountains, how many feet of pipe will they need? Use a proportion to solve.

For 1 mile, 6500 ft of pipe

For 8 miles, let it be X ft of pipe

==> 1: 6500 :: 8 : X

==> X= 6500 x 8

         = 52000 ft
