There are three generally accepted measurement systems:

Imperial (or English), Metric and International System of Units (SI)

The metric has two subsets; MKS and cgs for Meter-Kilogram-Second and centimeter-gram-second, respectively

Time:

  base unit is the second, in all measurement systems.

Mass:

  Imperial: base unit is the Slug

  Metric and SI: base unit is Kilograms (or grams in the cgs units system)

Volume

Imperial/English: base unit is the gallon (gal)

Metric and SI: base unit is the Liter

Length:

  Imperial: base unit is the foot (ft)

  Metric and SI: base unit is the meter (metre)
