d dimes and q quarters total $2.00

Determine three different combinations of dimes and quarters that total $2.00

Answer provided by our tutors

1dime= $ 0.1 , 1 quarter = $ 0.25.

So, 0.1d + 0.25q = $ 2.00

If d=10, then dimes make $ 1.00. So, 0.25q=1.00, which gives q=4.

Hence 4 quarters are required to make the rest of the $1.00. So one solution is d=10, q=4.

If d=5, then dimes make $ 0.5. So, 0.25q=1.5, which gives q=6.

Hence 6 quarters are required to make the rest of the $1.5. So one solution is d=5, q=6.

If d=15, then dimes make $ 1.5. So, 0.25q=0.5, which gives q=2.

Hence 6 quarters are required to make the rest of the $1.5. So one solution is d=15, q=2.
