it takes 4 hours for a man to do a job and 6 hours for a woman to do it. how long will it take for the two of them working together?

Since a man can do the job in 4 hours, in one hour he does 1/4 of the job. In the same way, a woman does 1/6 job per hour. Together, in one hour, they do 1/4 + 1/6 = 5/12 of the job. So, it will tkae them 1/(5/12)=12/5hours, which is 2 hours and 24 minutes.
