Problema Solution

Two cyclist start at the same time from opposite ends of a course that is 45 miles long. One cyclist is riding at 14 miles per hour and the second cyclist is riding at 16 miles per hour. How long after they begin will they meet?

Answer provided by our tutors

Applying the "distance formula" of d=rt

.

Let x = time (hours) they will meet

then

14x + 16x = 45

30x = 45

x = 45/30

x = 1.5 hours

or

x = 1 hour and 30 minutes
