Problema Solution
How long will it take a mother, running at 4 feet per second, to catch up with her toddler, running down the sidewalk at 2 feet per second, if the child had a 5 second head start?
Answer provided by our tutors
since the child had a head start of 5 seconds he is already at a distance
speed*time=distance
2*5=10
he is already 10 feets ahead of mother
suppose it takes time t to catch the child
distance covered by mother = 4*t
distance covered by child = 2*t + 10 (sice it had head start of 5 sec )
for mother to catch the child distances should be equal
4t = 2t + 10
2t=10
t=5 sec
it will take 5 sec for the mother to catch the child
