Problema Solution

Company A sold 14.7 million dollars of electronics equipment in 2000 and its sales have increased by 2.1 million dollars each year. Company B sold 19.4 million dollars of electric equipment in 2000 and its sales have increased by 1.7 million each year.

1) Let A (t) and B (t) repesent the sales (in millions of dollars) by company A and compnay B, respectively, at t years since 2000. Find equations for A and B.

2) Predict when sales at the companies will be equal. What will that sales be?

Answer provided by our tutors

A(t) =14.7+2.1t

B(t)=19.4+1.7 t

They will be equal when 14.7+2.1t=19.4+1.7 t

or 2.1t-1.7t=19.4-14.7

or 0.4t=4.7

or t= 4.7/0.4=11.75

Sales = 39.375
