Three watermelons and 2 apples weigh 32 lbs. Four watermelons and three apples weigh 44 lbs. All watermelons weigh the same. All apples weigh the same. What is the weight of two watermelons and one apple?

4x + 3y = 44

solving gives

x = 8, y = 1

 

so answer is  2*8 + 1*1 =     17 lbs
