Problema Solution

how many gallons of 90% antifreeze solution must be mixed with 80 gallons of 10% antifreeze to get a mixture of that 80%antifreeze?

Answer provided by our tutors

let x gallons of 90% mixed with 80 gallons of 10% antifreeze

so the total antifreeze  = x*90/100 + 80*10/100 = 0.9x+8

total volume = x+80

(0.9x+8)/ x+80 = 0.8

0.9x+8 = 0.8x+64

0.1x = 56

x = 560 gallons

so we needto mix 560 gallons of 90% antifreeze
