Problema Solution

The volume

V

of a fixed amount of a gas varies directly as the temperature

T

and inversely as the pressure

P

. Suppose that

=V120cm3

when

=T260

kelvin and

=P13kgcm2

. Find the temperature when

=V152cm3

and

=P15kgcm2

Answer provided by our tutors

V = C*T/P, where C is constant

C = V*P/T

V = 120 cm^3

T = 260 K

P = 13 kg/cm^2

C = 120*13/260

C = 6

The formula for the volume is:

V = 6T/P

T = VP/6

V = 152 cm^3

P = 15 kg/cm^2

T = 152*15/6

T = 380 K

When the volume is 152 cm^2 and the pressure is 15 kg/cm^2 the temperature is 380 kelvin.
