Problema Solution
A fuel producer needs 3,200 liters of fuel that contains 63% ethanol. To make this, the company will combine some 74% ethanol fuel with some 52% ethanol fuel. How much of each type should be used?
Answer provided by our tutors
Let 'x' represent the amount of 52% fuel, then it is added to '3200-x' 74% fuel in order to obtain 3200 of 63% fuel. Convert each percentage to a decimal: 0.52, 0.74 and 0.63:
3200*0.63=0.52x+0.74(3200-x)
x=1600
3200-1600=1600
So 74% should be evenly combined with 52% ethanol, 1,600 liters each.
