Problema Solution

The area of a rectangular garden is 140 square meters. The width is 3 meters longer than one-half of the length. Find the length and width of the garden?

Answer provided by our tutors

Let

x = the length of the garden

3 + (1/2)x = the width

A = 140 m^2 the area of the garden

Since A = width*length we have:

(3 + (1/2)x)*x = 140

........

x = 14 m

3 + (1/2)*14 = 3 + 7 = 10 m

The length of the garden is 14 m while the width is 10 m.
