The average speed of an express train is 20 km/hr .more than the average speed of a passenger train. To cover a distance of 360 kms .,the express train takes 3 hours less than that of the Passenger train. Find the average speed of express train and the passenger train

v = the average speed of a passenger train
t = the time of the passenger train
v + 20 = the average speed of express train
t - 3 = the time of the express train
d = 360 km
Since distance = speed*time we have:
vt = 360
t = 360/v
(v + 20)(t - 3) = 360
Plug t = 360/v into the above equation:
(v + 20)(360/v - 3) = 360
