Problema Solution
The gasoline gauge on a van initially read one third
full. When 10 gallons were added to the tank, the gauge read three fourths
full. How many more gallons are needed to fill the tank?
Answer provided by our tutors
Let T = the tank capacity.
10 gallons is the difference between (3/4) full and (1/3) full or:
(3/4-1/3)T=10

........
T = 24 gal
Since 3/4 of the tank is full we need to add 1 - 3/4 = 1/4 of the tank or:
(1/4)*24 = 6 gal
6 more gallons are needed to fill the tank.
