Problema Solution

The height of a cylinder is four times its radius. If the volume of the cylinder is 108(pie)cm^3 calculate the radius and height.

Answer provided by our tutors

Let

H = the height of the cylinder, H>0

R = the radius of the cylinder, R>0

V = 108(pie)cm^3 the volume of the cylinder

V = R^2(pie)H

R^2(pie)H = 108(pie) divide both sides by pie

R^2 H = 108

We also know that H = 4R so we plug H = 4R into R^2 H = 108

R^2 (4R) = 108

R^3 = 108/4

R^3 = 27

R^3 = 3^3

R = 3 cm

H = 4*3

H = 12 cm

The radius is 3 cm while the height is 12 cm.
