Problema Solution

The length of a rectangle is 3 inches more than its width. The area of the rectangle is equal to 2 inches more than 2 times the perimeter. Find the length and width of the rectangle

Answer provided by our tutors

Let

x = width, x>0

x + 3 = the width

A = the area

A = x(x + 3)

P = the perimeter

P = 2x + 2(x + 3)

The area is 2 inches more than 2 times the perimeter:

A = 2 + 2P

x(x + 3) = 2 + 2*(2x + 2(x + 3))
