The phone company need to set up a line above the tree. The company workers need to know the height of the tree in order put up the line. If the shadow the tree makes is 36 feet and the angle of elevation is from the bottom to the top is 45 degrees what is the height of the tree?

We will solve using trigonometry, assuming that the tree, the shadow and the distance from the top of the tree to the top of the shadow make right triangle:
x/36 = tan(45)
x/36 = 1
x = 36 ft
The tree is 36 feet high.
