x = the length in meters
1 + (1/4)x = the width in meters
P = 24 m the perimeter
Since the perimeter of rectangle equals two times the width plus two times the length we have:
P = 2x + 2(1 + (1/4)x)
Also we know that P = 24 m thus we have the following equation:
2x + 2(1 + (1/4)x) = 24
