Three girls chipped in to buy concert tickets for themselves and one additional ticket as a birthday gift for a friend. The tickets cost $37.50 each and each of the three girls paid $50. Soon they forgot to add in the the $12 processing charge per ticket, they did not have enough money to pay for the tickets. How much more money did each of the three girls have to pay in order to purchase the four tickets. Explain and justify your answer.

The three girls have total of 3*50 = $150.
The cost of 4 tickets together with the $12 processing charge per ticket is:
4*(37.50 + 12) = 4*49.50 = $198
This means that they are missing $198 - $150 = $48 altogether.
Each of them has to pay additional: $48/3 = $16 (we divide by 3 since there are 3 girls).
